A Neighborhood Sunset
Evenings looked like this when the days slowed and the neighborhood just… breathed.
The light lingered a little longer
Some things were finished up
Everything felt calmer
You could see it in the windows
Nobody rushed
The sun slipped away
The streets grew quieter
And the night came in slowly
See the sun, smell the air
Fun is coming
All the children laugh and play
Pick a flower, smell the rain
If you hold real still and look real far
You will see a rainbow, and maybe a star
The pot of gold is yours to discover
In that pot, you can guess
Is whatever you want
Only the best, I would guess
While my hair was the brightest red and cut straight across my forehead
I played behind the picket fence, pulling flowers for hours
Awaiting the mischief that was mine alone
Without dislike or suspicion
Until I got caught
And I would start over again
Blessings, dear friends,
