The grief that comes with losing a child is anything but simple. It’s not just about mourning a longed-for child but also all the hopes and dreams that came with them.

I believe that if Dakota could have said goodbye, he would have said this;

I’m just your precious little boy. 

Who didn’t make it there with you for long. 

Because I went straight to be with Jesus,

But I’ll be waiting for you here.

There are many beautiful places here.  

And so many others, just like me, are waiting to enter. 

Thank you for the life you gave me,

It was brief, but please don’t worry.

I have all Heaven’s Eternal Glory within reach.

I won’t have to suffer any more pain.

Thank you for the name you gave me.

I would have loved to bring it fame.

But if I’d lingered in earth’s shadows,

I would have suffered just the same.

Although my body you can’t hold,

It doesn’t mean I’m gone.

This world was not my world.

God chose that I move on.

I know the pain that drowns your soul,

The pain that you are forced to face now 

You have my word that someday, someway, I’ll fill your arms once again

Someday you’ll realize it was meant to be.

And we will embrace once again.

God doesn’t make mistakes.

But that won’t soften your worst blow…

Or make your heart not ache.

I’ll be watching over all you do,

Another child you’ll bear.

Believe me when I say to you,

That I will always be there.

There will come a time, I promise you.

When you held my hand, for a brief moment, I felt like I belonged to you and the world around me. But then, before I could tell you I loved you, like a colorful butterfly leaving its beauty behind, I flew away into the arms of our Heavenly Father. I wish I could have stayed awhile so you could watch me grow up, but I will never forget you, my mom and dad.
