Summer Evenings Felt Different Back Then
The day wasn’t quite over
The air still held the heat
Most things got done before dark
Everyone was still outside
The streets were still awake
Simple routines filled the day
Nothing needed to change
You just sat and watched
Everything felt slower
But no one was in a hurry
You could hear it from a distance
That familiar Sunday sound
And you just walked
Taking the long way back
Because there was no where else to be
As the light slowly faded
And the night took over
Faded pictures of old
Dust settled memories of days gone by
I quarrel not with destiny
But make the best of everything
That’s good enough for me
Blessings, dear friends
